One of the questions we get asked A LOT, is; “Do I qualify for Debt Review?”. It’s a simple question but can get complicated. If you want to know who qualifies for debt review, read on.
Background to Debt Review
Debt Review (or Debt Counselling as it’s sometimes referred to) is a process to help a person who is struggling with debt to get back in charge. This is done with the help of the National Credit Act. An act of law in South Africa that governs the credit market. If you borrow from someone or lend to someone then this act will apply in some way.
Debt Review is covered in section 86 of the act and is there to help you if all of the following apply…
- a consumer in a credit agreement (you have lent money from someone)
- a South African citizen or reside here
- earning a steady, verifiable income (salary or own business)
- over-indebted (we’ll help with this one, but basically, you need more money to pay your debts than you have available)
So if the above apply to you, get in touch and we’ll take you through the process further and answer any questions that you might have. You can also check out our FAQ’s section or complete our quick debt review assessment and we’ll get in touch with you.
